Let me set the stage for you:
It was a delightful peaceful Saturday morning and instead of bolting out of bed, I took some time to enjoy the sunlight streaming through my shades. My body felt refreshed and my mind ready to move from a more mindful place. My alarm had been set for 7:30, but I gingerly hopped out of bed around 7. I brewed up a cup of coffee and found myself drawn to my porch. I was so excited to sit on the porch and read a book with a fresh cup of coffee. Mmmmm...such a lovely way to begin the weekend. The birds were tweeting, the sun was peaking through the sapphire sky and all seemed right with the world. I cracked open my new book and began reading. As I took my first sip of coffee I could hear the banging of a hammer next door.
"Ugh," I sighed to myself. The pounding got increasingly louder and my serene landscape became a fully animated work zone. The humming of remodeling rang throughout the neighborhood. At first I felt myself feeling a bit frustrated, and then I couldn't help but chuckle. I closed up my book and traveled back inside.
As I walked over to my bookshelf I pulled out the book, The Radiance Sutras by Lorin Roche, PhD. I often invite Spirit to show me what I need to know for the day and as promised the Universe always delivers. I cracked the book open to the 33rd Sutra.
"The journey begins here,
With whatever is capturing your attention..."
The Sutra continues, but this was what I needed to see. The exterior noise had captured my attention. I had closed up shop in the midst of my journey. Perhaps the remodeling sounds were there so that I could really practice going inward? With compassion and curiosity I began to giggle. The Universe offers so many benevolent gifts and my Saturday morning coffee time was for sure one of them.
I carried this sentiment into my Yoga class and invited my students to notice what was capturing their attention. We have such amazing opportunities to become more present and more mindful in our lives. Sometimes the external noise is there to show us that it too is a journey.
As you dive into your Monday, may you be mindfully aware of what is capturing your attention!
May You Sweetly Seek:)
In Gratitude,
Sarah
