~Ted Andrews, Animal Speaks
I so enjoy the work of Ted Andrews in his book, Animal Speaks. He thoughtfully looks to the animal kingdom as another means of informing of us of our innate gifts and the cycles and rhythms of our life.
As I again looked up heron medicine I was elated to find that this winged creatures message is one of great significance in my life. The defining features of the heron are self determination and self-reliance. One of the most significant features of the heron is their long, thin legs. According to Andrews, "Legs enable animals and people to move about on the earth. They are symbols of balance, and they represent an ability to progress and evolve. Also, the longer the legs, the deeper the water the heron will feed in. The deeper life can be explored. The long thin legs of the heron reflect that you don't need great massive pillars to remain stable, but you must be able to stand on your own."
As I sit with this interpretation I am again reminded of all of our capacities to 'wade' in the waters of life. We have within us the potential to evolve and explore. We were born with curious adventurous hearts. As I tap into the energy of the heron I am again reminded that it is through exploration that we evolve. By saying YES to the grand adventures of life even if we can't see their outcome. We must possess a willingness to seize the opportunity and stand on our own.
May you find the blessings of Mother Nature all around you today-from the smallest creatures may you sense your connection!
May You Sweetly Seek:)
In Gratitude,
Sarah
