I love looking words up in the dictionary in order to become more familiar with the foundation of their presence in my life. Who knew that this word was so full of meaning...According to the definition, an 'edge' is, "the outside limit of an object, area, or surface; a place or part farthest away from the center of something."
The translation that I take away from this rich and glorious word is that our edges are our pivot points to the center most connection of our lives. An edge contains the juicy qualities of self discovery and exploration. An edge is the evolving opportunity of the explorer...the ability to see wholeness on the outer most edge of an object. The ability to see form where there is only formlessness...the ability to imagine space in contraction. An edge holds the humbleness of defended places and unaccepted limits. When I picture my Yoga practice I think of the edge as a subtle moment of metamorphosis...there is a moment of awareness in which you find the delicate balance between too much and simply not enough. An edge can unravel the dialogue of one's self. An edge requires our commitment to continually come back to our center point. For me, the center point is the heart. At times my 'edges' have taken me galaxies away from my center point...I have struggled, stomped my feet, pouted my lips and have frozen my body in total protest, but the delicious moment is the next instance in which I surrender to my edge and inquire if I need more or less...
Today I am thankful for the 'edges' in my life....these edges have transformed my center point and in their outer most limits have renewed balance...
These edges are contained in both the external and internal
I give thanks for the gentle dance of holding on and letting go.
These edges require my full attention and presence.
I give thanks for the space of complete awareness.
These edges require me to be a silent witness with a friendly heart.
I give thanks for the loving kindness that I show towards myself and others.
These edges are not linear and clear, sometimes they require epic faith
I give thanks for the ability to explore the unseen realm.
These edges bring me closer to the center point of truth
I give thanks for the journey of an open and present heart.
These edges at allow me to experience a range of emotion
I give thanks for the totality of expression
These edges bring me closer to transformation
I give thanks for the opportunity to explore the edges of life.
