If you let go completely, you will know complete peace and freedom. Your struggle with the world will have come to an end." ~Ajahn Chah
Ajahn Chah taught, " Do everything with a mind that lets go." He taught a letting go that doesn't push things away. Pushing things away is something else entirely. Thinking we are letting go, we can just be averse, not wanting to be bothered by anything. But he described letting go as touching and letting go. Allow things to be as they are. Allow sights, feelings, thoughts, praise, blame, and all conditions to change. It is the nature of conditions to change. We can also practice allowing people and events to be as they are. It's not that we should never respond to or improve life, but it's important to know we can just let everything be as it is. This is equanimity. There is great relief in letting things be. Let things change according to their own nature. Let them come and go. This allows us to rest in a spacious knowing that is aware of sounds and silence, the dawn and the dusk, the beginning and the end. Ajahn Chach also called this knowing the refuge. Samadhi, or bliss enables us to discover and maintain this refuge.
